Based in San Francisco, CA, Cleantech America is a national leader in the development of utility-scale, emission-free solar generation facilities. The Company was recently selected to develop environmentally-friendly, clean solar generation resources from 5 megawatt (MW) and 80 MW solar farms located in California's Central Valley. The projects will be two of the largest photovoltaic solar farms in the world.
"Having a CFO with Bill's broad industry expertise is of tremendous benefit to Cleantech America and our customers," Barnes noted. "He has extensive experience managing both the development and financing of large-scale energy projects worldwide. His financial leadership will help us achieve our goal - which is to see renewable solar power become competitive with fossil fuel-generation."
"I'm looking forward to using my expertise to help Cleantech America, Inc. bring affordable solar generation to the marketplace," Overholt said. "With escalating energy prices and supply constraints, it's never been more important to develop sustainable clean energy alternatives that benefit the environment and promote energy independence."
While with Calpine, Mr. Overholt completed acquisitions and financings for more than 3000 MWs of power projects in the United States and Mexico and also managed the organization responsible for risk analysis in the western United States and Mexico. More recently, he led restructurings of several leveraged lease transactions as part of the company's bankruptcy reorganization.
Before joining Calpine in 2000, Mr. Overholt served in various finance and development roles with Edison Mission Energy, Unocal Corporation and Atlantic Richfield Company. Mr. Overholt received a bachelor's degree in economics from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California.
Cleantech America's primary business is development of clean energy alternatives for sale to utilities, municipalities and other customers. The company was recently awarded a long-term power purchase agreement by PG&E to provide environmentally-clean solar power from CalRENEW-1, the largest photovoltaic solar generation project announced to date by a California investor-owned utility. Cleantech America also recently signed an agreement with the Kings River Conservation District (KRCD) for 80 MW of solar power. Slated to begin operations in 2010, the project is presently the largest announced solar farm in the world. For more information contact Cleantech America at (415) 277-5455
